What happens when you are asleep? When you are sleeping there are 4 stages for your sleep and REM sleep. Stage 1 is when your brain reduces alpha waves and increases theta waves and your eye movements slow down and you can easily be woken up. Stage 2 is when we spend half of our sleep in this stage and when brain creates cindle waves and connected to motor learning like sports, instruments. Stage 3 is when your brain produces slower delta waves and harder to be woken. REM sleep which stands for rapid eye movement and adults spend about 20 percent of there sleep in this stage well infants spend about 50 percent in this stage. during REM sleep your eyes moves quickly and your body's  muscles are paralyzed also you have vivid dreams and the purpose of REM sleep still remains a mystery.
